The Recy & DepoTech conference takes place every two years at the Montanuniversität in Leoben. Due to the current corona pandemic, this year the conference was held virtually from November 18th to 20th with 560 participants. The presentations were recorded in advance and then streamed in the virtual room, with the possibility of a live discussion after the individual blocks.
Within this conference, DI Dr. Bernhard Mayr gave a lecture on the subject of “Membrane bioreactor for cleaning surface water in a waste treatment company”.
In waste treatment companies, rainwater is usually organically and inorganically contaminated to a considerable extent due to the storage of waste outdoor on sealed surfaces. According to the state of the art, anthropogenically polluted rainwater must be cleaned before it is discharged directly. At the location of the waste treatment plant, a membrane bioreactor process was first piloted and, based on the results, the large-scale plant was built and put into operation. Even longer periods of no throughput, the cold winter or sudden high hydraulic loads do not have any negative effects on the biological cleaning performance or on the permeability of the membrane.
Further information can be found on the Recy & DepoTech event page and in our short version of the lecture.
